Methodological information
Table description: The symmetric input-output table at basic prices (product by product) shows the use of goods and services, by product and by type of use and also the components of gross value added by products. It consists of four parts: the intermediate use matrix, the final uses matrix, the value added matrix and the imports (cif:cost, insurance and freight).
The intermediate use matrix, shows the intermediate consumption of products (rows) used in the production process of each product (columns), at basic prices. Taxes less subsidies on products are presented as an extra row at the bottom of the table, both for intermediate and for final uses, converting the data into purchasers’ prices.
Final uses at basic prices are classified by products (rows) and are broken down into final consumption expenditure, gross capital formation and exports (fob:free on board). Final consumption expenditure is broken down to final consumption expenditure by households, by non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH) and by government. Gross capital formation is separated to gross fixed capital formation, changes in valuables and changes in inventories. Exports (fob) are reported according to their geographical destination (intra EU, extra EU).
Total intermediate use and total final uses sum to the total use.
The value added matrix, at the lower part of the table, shows the breakdown to compensation of employees, other taxes less subsidies on production, consumption of fixed capital and operating surplus\mixed income, by products (columns). Value added and output are recorded at basic prices.
At the bottom part of the table, the imports (cif) are classified by products (columns) and are also broken down according to geographical origins (intra EU, extra EU). Imports (cif) are added to the output to calculate total supply of each product at basic prices.
