Methodological information
1. Data for 2022 are provisional.
2. The difference observed between the total amount of waste generated and the total amount of waste treated is mainly due to leaks and other water losses from the various processes after the waste enters the treatment plants. These liquids are managed within the plants, e.g. biological treatment. These quantities are excluded from the scope of municipal solid waste data reporting. Also, collected waste is stored, untreated, for future treatment.
3. Biodegradable waste mainly includes organic waste (e.g. kitchen waste).
4. From 2019 onwards, the quantities of wood used for recycling also include quantities of repaired wooden pallets for reuse.
5. The quantities of waste from electrical and electronic equipment also include quantities prepared for reuse.
6. Data for the period 2010 - 2021 have been revised.
